The University of 天美传媒 values the participation of both staff and students in its decision making.

Every two years, the University hosts elections for staff and student positions on academic governance bodies to ensure that perspectives across the institution are considered.

Academic Senate election cycle

The University’s academic governance body is comprised of Academic Senate (Senate) and its four standing committees:

Elections for academic staff and student representatives on Senate occur every two years.

The next round of elections will commence in April 2027 with the newly elected two-year membership terms commencing 1 July 2027.

Elections for the standing committees of Senate also take place every two years on alternate years.

The next round of elections for standing committees will commence in April 2028, with the newly elected two-year membership terms commencing on 1 July 2028.

Elections are supported by the Academic Governance and Standards Division (AGS) and conducted in accordance with the .

Academic Senate (Senate) is the principal academic body of the University responsible for providing academic leadership in education and research across the University and its controlled entities. Senate ensures that academic staff, professional staff and students are represented in decision making and embodies collegiality within the University. In so doing, Senate works to assure the highest academic standards and contributes to safeguarding the academic freedom of the University.

Elected positions on Senate:

A Chair elected by and from the professoriate (Level D or above) of the University and who will not be drawn from the ex-officio membership of Academic Senate.
A Deputy Chair elected by the members of Academic Senate from eligible academic staff (Level D or above) of the University who are members of Academic Senate.

Three student members nominated by and from the Student Advisory Council membership (elected positions) and approved by the Academic Senate Chairs Committee to represent the undergraduate, postgraduate and international student populations.

The Teaching and Learning Committee oversees academic policies and standards relevant to teaching and learning, including those related to the student academic experience.

Elected positions on the Teaching and Learning Committee

Two academic staff members elected by and from the academic staff in the Faculty of Arts, Society and Business.
One academic staff members elected by and from the academic staff in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences.
One academic staff members elected by and from the academic staff in the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health.
One elected member of Academic Senate as elected by the members of Academic Senate (cannot serve on more than one Senate committee).
Two students elected by and from the undergraduate student population.
One student elected by and from the postgraduate coursework student population.
One student elected by and from the onshore international student population.

The Research and Graduate Research Committee oversees polices and standards relating to research and graduate research. This includes monitoring the requirements for Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) admission, supervision, research integrity, academic progress and examination.

Elected positions on the Research and Graduate Research Committee:

An early career researcher from each Faculty elected by and from the academic staff of the Faculty.
A mid-career researcher from each Faculty elected by and from the academic staff of the Faculty.
One elected member of Academic Senate as elected by the members of Academic Senate.
Three graduate research students elected by and from the graduate research student population, one of whom will be elected by and from the international graduate research student population.

The Collaborative Delivery Oversight Committee oversees the quality assurance of courses delivered in partnership with another entity, including an overseas university. It also oversees the conduct of international student recruitment agents to ensure they comply with relevant standards.

Two academic staff members elected by and from the academic staff in the Faculty of Arts, Society and Business.
One academic staff member elected by and from the academic staff in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences.
One academic staff member elected by and from the academic staff in the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health.
One elected academic staff member of Academic Senate elected by
members of Academic Senate.
Two student member elected by the student population, at least one of whom will be studying at an offshore campus.

The Course Quality Committee scrutinises new course proposals to ensure they meet all standards, including entry standards, and the outcomes of cyclical course reviews.

Two academic staff members elected by and from the academic staff in
the Faculty of Arts, Society and Business.
One academic staff member elected by and from the academic staff in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences.
One academic staff member elected by and from the academic staff in the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health.
One elected member of Academic Senate as nominated by the Academic Senate Executive Committee.
Two students elected by and from the student population.
